Now in its third year, National Fentanyl Awareness Day brings together individuals, parents, teachers, corporations, influencers, community groups, and government entities to help put an end to this emergency.
Last year, over 70,000 Americans were poisoned by illegally made fentanyl. Fentanyl is now found in fake pills and street drugs, but users are often unaware that their drugs contain the potent opioid. This is an urgent public health crisis that puts all of us, and our loved ones, at risk. We all must play a role in preventing further tragedies.
We are proud to partner with other local organizations to see that we create a ripple of awareness across Escambia County. To learn more, click below.

OPUS mailed postcards to more than 28,000 homes across Escambia County, targeting households with kids/young adults ages 10-21.
"Isaiah has definitely made an impact. We've received more comments about his billboard than any other. I honestly believe that when you shift a "possibility" from theory to relatable, that it makes people pay attention. And that's one of OPUS's main reasons for being." - Cindy C. McLaughlin, Special Programs Manager
Mental health issues are not prioritized and often thrown under the radar until they become visible issues such as suicide and overdose. Depression, anxiety, self-harm, and substance abuse are viewed as excuses, acts of laziness, attention-seeking, and/or bad behavior. The youth struggling with these challenges are not provided with enough resources in our community. We have to address what is going on with our teens and the significance of the emotional discomfort they are facing on a daily basis. Navigating life is challenging for fully-developed adults. Teens are juggling hormones, peer pressure, social media, college preparation, and or preparing to enter the “real” world and all of the responsibilities that come with transitioning into adulthood.
All we want in this world is to be happy. When this feeling seems impossible to grasp in our daily lives, it is natural to seek something outside of ourselves to find peace, comfort, or a sense of relief. After speaking with a group of teens and young adults, the consensus is that they need more productive activities to participate in within our community.
There’s no question that education is a key part of helping today’s young people make healthy choices. They need accurate information from trusted sources. Visit naturalhigh.org/fentanyl to learn more.
